Frequently Asked Questions for Pre-K 3
- What are the hours of the Pre-K 3 Program?
Boone Elementary offers two different half day sessions for Pre-K 3. The hours are:
Morning session: 7:45 am – 10:50 am
Afternoon session: 11:50 am – 2:45 pm
- Are parents able to pick which session their child is placed in?
We are not able to guarantee a specific session. Therefore, parents are not able to pick which session their child is placed in.
- Are there available transportation services for Pre-K 3?
Transportation is not provided for students in Pre-K. Parents will be responsible for transporting their child to and from school.
- Does my child need to be potty trained before entering Pre-K 3?
Our program highly recommends that a student be toilet trained before attending the program.
- Can my child attend Boone Elementary if we do not live in the Boone attendance area?
Parents are encouraged to register their child at the campus their address is assigned to. If your child’s homeschool does not offer Pre-K 3, then parents are welcome to register at a campus that does offer Pre-K 3. Transfer requests must be made and approved through the Austin ISD website, https://www.austinisd.org/transfer.
- Will my child need to bring a lunch to school with them daily?
Pre-K 3 offers free meals for all students! Students in the morning session receive breakfast and lunch. Students in the afternoon session receive lunch. Parents are welcome to send their child with their own lunch if they prefer. If your child has a food allergy, we ask that the child be sent with their own lunch.
- Is attendance required for students attending Pre-K?
Upon enrollment, all Pre-K students are required to attend school daily under the State’s Compulsory Attendance Laws. This includes arriving on time and staying until the end of the day. Parents who do not comply with these laws can result in the school filing in court against them for compulsory attendance violations or the student being withdrawn for non-attendance.
- What is the policy on taking family trips/vacations during the school year?
Texas State law requires that children enrolled in school attend school daily. Therefore, Austin ISD does not recommend families taking trips or vacations during the school year. In the event the child will miss school for an extended amount of time, the parent will need to withdraw their child from the Pre-K 3 Program. The child will be placed on a waitlist, and upon return, if there is available space, the child will be enrolled back into the Pre-K 3 Program. - Is there a waitlist available for a specific session?
Students who are accepted into the Pre-K 3 Program will need to attend the session that is assigned to them. If that does not work for the parent, then they may choose to not enroll their child and be placed on our waitlist. Parents should contact Ester Tristan, in the front office for assistance.
